EXEMPLARY TROOPS |
The Register, Thursday 17 April 1919, page 6 EXEMPLARY TROOPS We recently published a paragraph, concerning ttie exemplary conduct of the returning soldiers on the troopship Anchises. On Wednesday afternoon Capt. McDonald,of the Janus, at present at Port Adelaide, called at The Register Office, and was warm in his praise of the fine behaviour of the men of the wireless Corps, whom he brought back from Calcutta, and who had served in Mesopotamia. He said:— 'They were a grand lot of fellows, both officers and men, and I cannot speak too highly of their conduct. Each one tried to make the other happy, and the time went quickly. An excellent sports programme was conducted on board. There were a swimming bath, a greasy pole, tug-of-war contests, and the competitors were keen and enthusiastic. The prizes were given out on Monday afternoon when we were coming up the gulf. I never want to be associated with a Better lot of men.
