Sailed Gravesend April 18th 1856 - arrived Auckland August 8th 1856
This fine ship, one of the Willis' line, was vessel of 622 tons, in command of Captain A.C. Clarke. Sailing from Gravesend on 18th April, she crossed the Equator 22nd May and arrived 8th August. This vessel had hitherto earned a reputation for speed, her previous passage to Sydney having been made in 79 days. On the trip to Auckland for 12 consecutive days she made an average run of 290 miles per diem. She carried 12 cabin and 128 second and steerage passengers.
NOTE: The above is a quote from the book "White Wings" -Sir Henry Brett, however futher investigation has found it contains some errors. Lloyds register shows the Lord Burleigh was owned by Blair & Co. not the Willis Line and she was Barque rigged.

* The passenger list for the highlighted McDonalds has been presented in family order. Head of the household Hector first, then wife Ann followed by the children in birth order. One would then assume this has been placed in a family group which does make you wonder about the extra John*. As he is third on the list (before the children) I assume he was an adult relation of Hector's, though this is yet to be proven.
